Remember friendship bracelets?

I don’t think we wear, make, or share enough friendship bracelets as adults.

They’re bright, they’re colorful, they’re cute. Why exactly does this stop being a thing when we hit our 20s? Aren’t they even more important as adults, to remind our friends that we still think about and love them even when our lives get too busy with work and kids or we start to drift apart location wise?

So this week, I’m bringing back the friendship bracelet with a how-to on making your own word bracelet for your friends, your family, your kids to make for their friends, or just to make some cute shit for yourself!

These things are incredibly easy to make and they’re an easy craft for adults or kids!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Optional - super glue, measuring tape

First thing you’re gonna wanna do is come up with the word or short phrase you want your bracelet to say. There’s no real limit to what you can put except for how big your recipient’s wrist is so get creative!

After you’ve got your word(s) picked out we gotta get those measurements. I typically just ask whomever I’m making it for to measure their wrist for me but if you’re making one for yourself you can just wrap the cord around your own wrist then double it to make sure you’ve got enough room to knot it later.

Tip: don’t want to worry about picking up your work in progress just to see if it fits? Measure your wrist with a measuring tape first then cut your cord to 3ish inches bigger than the measurement. Now you can just use that measuring tape to see if your beads are at the right length!

Got your cord ready? Get that word on there and centered (make sure you’ve got the spelling right or you’re gonna be all kinds of mad at yourself if you notice it later.)

Now pick your colors and start filling in on either side of the word until it reaches around your wrist or measures out to the right length.

Tie 2-3 knots TIGHT and if you want you can add a smidge of super glue to help keep the knot in place just for extra hold.

Cut the cord tails that will be left after knotting and bam! You’ve got yourself a cute ass little bracelet for you or your friends!

Use your bracelets to make a statement, share a joke, or show a little love. Then get yourself a card and mail that sucker to your loved one with a note to let them know you’re thinking of them. Making these bracelets is fun, easy, and they turn out super cute. I highly recommend this craft as a summer activity to feel a little more connected to the people we’re not getting to see as much cause of the pandemic. Plus, who doesn’t love getting an unexpected gift in the mail?

What words or short phrases would you wear on your bracelet(s)? Who would you make one for? Let me know in the comments below!
