Bad Bitch Anthems
For my last lady-centric post of women’s history month I wanted to do something fun, so in a combination of my own research and suggestions from my wonderful readers and followers, I’ve put together my BAD BITCH ANTHEMS playlist on Spotify for all ya’ll to follow, share, and enjoy!
BAD BITCH ANTHEMS (click that link to be taken right to the playlist) is a collection of songs made by and about women (full disclosure there is a single song that features a dude rapper…but the song is too good not to include) that crosses genres and generations. There’s pop, punk, hip hop, and country. There’s 70s rockers, 80s queens, and a 00s girl groups.
Now, before you head over to give BAD BITCH ANTHEMS a like and a listen, I wanted to do a brief write up on a handful of songs I had never heard before putting this playlist together but now love, in case you’re looking for a good place to start!
THAT BITCH by Bea Miller
- Ya’ll. The aggression, the lyrical truth, the beat…this might be my favorite new music discovery in a list full of great discoveries. Bea Miller actually makes an appearance on the playlist twice, but THAT BITCH speaks to my heart and my own life. With lyrics like “And since you are a dude, yeah you can tell the truth but as soon as I do, I’m a bitch” how could I not include it on the list? Bea says it herself in the last seconds of the song…it’s a banger!
Got My Name Changed Back by Pistol Annies
- A good ol fashioned revenge song in the vein of The Chicks but no one’s getting killed in this one…just divorced. Got My Name Changed Back is a cute little ditty about, you guessed it, getting your name changed back after divorce. I know plenty of people who have gone through divorces and saw them as liberating instead of the end of the world and this is a great song to play on your way out of the courthouse.
Thunder Thighs by Miss Eaves
- An ode to the thicc girl (boy, non-binary.) I never thought I’d hear a song going off about chub rub but my god if Miss Eaves didn’t make it happen. The whole song is an anthem for those of us with big thighs, big butts, and guts and feeling good in the body we have. To have a theme song devoted to bodies that look like yours? Badass.
Bombastic by Bonnie McKee
- Shaggy’s Bombastic will always have a place in my heart but Bonnie McKee’s Bombastic has taken over as the reigning Bombastic favorite. The chorus gives me 80s girl band vibes that honestly take me back to my days watching 80s videos while cosmic bowling (remember cosmic bowling??) and I love the nostalgia of it. Bonnie McKee’s sweet vocals juxtaposed against the hard hitting music gets me amped up.
Making this playlist was a lot of fun and, no promises, I think I might want to do more of them in the future…so if you have any great theme ideas you want to see, send them my way! This isn’t the kind of playlist that needs to be listened to in order… I never listen to playlists in order and think it’s more important for all the songs to work together randomly so feel free to hit that shuffle button! Be sure to like the playlist on Spotify, share it with all the bad bitches you know, and let me know what you think in the comments below!
A huge shout out and thank you to Shannon, Stacey, Bo, Laura V., Alyssa, Tara, Courtney, Kait, Laura H., Steve, Jonathan, Leanne, Jason, Katy, Andy, Kristie, Joe, Jordan, Carly, and Abby for their contributions to this playlist! It would not be near as good without all of you and your suggestions!
