Ayyyeee, it’s the end of May and this month has had me both overwhelmed and uninspired but I’ve still managed to find some sweet shit to hype up!
Entertainment
- As a kid, I always thought we fit into two camps: Nickelodeon kids or Disney Channel kids. You could watch both but you were definitely more dedicated to one over the other and I was 1000% a Nickelodeon kid. So when I saw Hulu had The Orange Years, a documentary chronicling Nickelodeon’s heyday (which also happened to coincide with my very 90s childhood) what choice did I have but to check it out? It was a total walk down memory lane and reminded me of how cool kids programming can be when you treat your young viewers like people and not like they’re stupid because they’re kids. I recommended it to my dad after watching and he got as much of a kick out of it as I did. If you’re curious as to why so many Millennials are obsessed with their 90s childhoods, The Orange Years is a great doc to help answer that question.
- Amazingly enough, I talked about Mario Party in my May round up last year…what are the odds? But this time around, I got Mario Party for the Switch as a birthday gift and Jonathan and I have had a lot of fun playing through it this month. In this version, each character has a different dice block that is specific to them in addition to the normal dice block which makes you have to think more strategically when choosing who to play cause their dice block can be a real asset or a real pain in the ass. There’s also a partner mode that is honestly the highlight of the whole game that lets you and your partner have to work together to figure out how best to get stars or to screw over the competition. It’s a lot of fun.
- Yeah, I wrote a whole review about it but it still has to make the list. I’ve had so much fun replaying and watching this game since it first came out at the beginning of the month. To read my more in-depth opinion on Resident Evil Village, check out my review here!
- Yo, AMC’s Stubs A-List has been a game changer. Jonathan has wanted nothing more in the last year than to go back to the movies and since theaters are opening up again he made the call to grab us each a subscription to the A-List. For about $20 a month you can see three movies a week, no restrictions. New releases, special releases, the good comfy seats. If it’s on the app you can reserve a seat at no extra cost than your monthly amount. We’ve gone twice since we bought it with two more reserved over the Memorial day weekend. We even made a last minute call to not go to one of our reservations earlier this week and it didn’t feel bad since we didn’t spend individual money for the tickets. As long as you cancel before showtime you’re free to use that reservation for something else later in the week. I know we’re all looking for things to do now that we can do them again and if movies are your thing and you think you’d go at least twice a month, joining the A-List is 100% worth it in my opinion.

- I’ve had the same wallet for literal years and it’s served me well but that thing is BIG. So, for my birthday I asked for this wallet that seemed like a small enough size to fit in the smaller bags I’ve gotten recently, (like this rattan bag from last month’s round up,) but with plenty of space for everything I need. It’s super cute and I love the mustard yellow color (a color I’ve become mildly obsessed with recently and I’m not mad about it,) but it comes in a handful of different colors to suit anyone’s tastes. There are two window pockets for your ids or if you want to carry a picture in there (do people still carry pictures in their wallet??) I do kinda wish the zippered pouch to hold your cash and coins was a smidge bigger but it’s definitely not a dealbreaker. If you’re in the market for a new wallet or something a little smaller to fit all your cute summer handbags I highly recommend this little guy.
- I don’t care if masks are technically on their way out, I can’t imagine ever not having one in my car or bag for the rest of my days. We needed a major mask upgrade in this house though and a few friends talked up Old Navy’s masks enough that I bought a couple 5 packs…and they’re awesome! They have adjustable ear straps, they’re big enough to fit larger faces but fold nicely for a smaller face, there are so many color options, and they’re on a serious sale! I don’t think masks will ever go totally out of style ever again so if you agree with me head over to OldNavy.com to pick up a couple of sets.
- There’s a certain brand that is well known for their quilted bags and accessories and whose lanyards and id cases I always really enjoy. However, they’re hella expensive for a lanyard and an id case and typically they’re sold separately, though I did discover while writing this that they’ve started pairing them together for a cool $30 (it’s not cool.) But! I while on my hunt for a new lanyard for my keys I found an off brand that sold the case and the lanyard together for like $13 and the quality was just as good if not better than that expensive brand. The id case feels sturdier than some of the ones I’ve had in the past from that more expensive brand and I think diehard fans of that brand would be hard pressed to find much of a difference in the lanyard. Totally worth the cheaper price tag.
Miscellaneous
- This year I finally got to fulfill my 2020 birthday wish of visiting the zoo but the forecast was calling for potential rain during our visit. Luckily, Jonathan suggested we grab some ponchos…cause weather be damned, we were heading to the zoo. We picked up a couple of dollar store ponchos, which are really just glorified garbage bags, and they came in so clutch! Half way through our visit the downpour started and we were the only smarties with our slick ponchos to let us keep walking around unfazed by the weather. Well, mostly unfazed, the wind whipping the hoods made hearing one another almost impossible but overall it lead to one of the best parts of the day.
- Ya’ll ever had a poke bowl? They are so damn good. For my birthday lunch we went to grab poke bowls at Kahuna, if you’re in the Pittsburgh area it’s in East Liberty, and boy did it hit the spot. Poke bowls usually consist of a bowl of rice or greens filled with raw fish, some veggies, and some kinda crunchy something or other of your choosing then slap a sauce on there and bam! Delicious, sort of healthy, meal time.
