We’ve finally reached the end of the first month of 2020, kinda felt like it lasted several months, am I right? But no matter, I’m here with a new monthly post! I know I tend to complain a lot but I do like things sometimes, so I want to share. Every month I’ll be doing a Sweet Shit Round Up focusing on all the things that brought joy to my life that month. From books, movies, and tv shows to blogs, products, news stories, and more, this is the place for all the Sweet Shit that made life a little less daunting. Let’s see what January brought to the table!
Books
Maybe He Just Likes You by Barbara Dee
- A #METOO book for the middle school set. Maybe He Just Likes You follows Mila, a seventh grader who suddenly finds herself as the focus of uncomfortable and unwanted attention from several boys on the basketball team who turn her body into a game. Honestly, this book isn’t just for the YA crowd, a lot of adults could probably benefit from reading a simpler explanation of sexual harassment/assault and if you’re like me your blood will be boiling from chapter 1.
TV
- The reality phenomenon of the month! A friend of mine recommended it to me (knowing my EXTREME love for trash tv) and she really did me a service. Allow me to parphrase SNL’s Stefon and say this show’s got everything! Romance, mystery, catfishing, shit talking, and the chance to hear just how fucking stupid we all sound when we’re texting our friends. The premise is simple, a group of strangers all live in an apartment building and never interact outside of a computer screen and texting. How far you go is based solely off of your personality (real or made up) and your profile pictures…..do you think you could win? The whole season is up on Netflix now!
- Ya girl loves some scary shit. Horror/thrillers/mysteries are my fave genre of any form of entertainment. So when my dad let us check out his Shudder account (thanks Dad!) it.was.on. If you’re not familiar, Shudder is a horror/thriller streaming service that has all kinds of movies and tv shows for the spooky set. They’ve got the kind of stuff you probably can’t find on any of the other streaming sites plus exclusives like the new Creepshow tv show which carries the anthology torch from its two film predecessors.
Products
Strep Tests - Amazon
- It’s cold and flu season. Kids are in school being little germ monsters. Strep happens. I’ve briefly mentioned my love of having at home strep tests in a previous post and dammit….I’m doing it again. If you have kids, if you are prone to getting strep, if you’re none of those things but like to be prepared GET THESE TESTS! They’re super easy to use, albeit a little gaggy, and you can have your answer in less than 5 minutes. Should they be used in lieu of going to the actual doctor? Nope. But they’ll let you be more confident that you’re paying a copay and taking the time off work for a legit reason.
Nerf Tuff Tug Dog Toy - Amazon
- Dogs. Love’em. Even though they can be a bit on the destructive side sometimes. My dog Tucker is 15lbs of chewing fury. If it’s on the floor, it’s in pieces. Mail, tupperware lids, dog toys…they’ve all fallen victim to his knife like teeth. Until I found this bomb dog toy by Nerf. It’s made of a pliable plastic that not even Tucker’s strong ass teeth has been able to tear through yet, and he’s had it over a month. Plus, I love the rings cause they don’t hurt to hold when in a tug-o-war fest.
Iron Flask Water Bottle - Amazon
- Who can’t get down with some serious hydration? Plus reusable water bottles are all the rage when it comes to going green. If you like that Hydroflask look but are on a budget and not a VSCO girl, this is the bottle for you. It also comes in a wide range of colors and sizes carrying between 14oz - 64oz so you can decide how much peeing you’re trying to do in a day.
Erin Condren Life Planner - ErinCondren.com
- A few weeks ago I wrote about my planner obsession and how terrible I am at using them. But maybe you aren’t! Erin Condren has so damn many options when it comes to planners that there should be the ideal planner for anyone. From life planners to teacher planners, planners for kids and planning your wedding…you can plan just about anything. Plus there’s so many different accessories for all of your planner needs you can make your planner as unique as you like while getting yourself hella organized.
Morphe X JeffreeStar Eye Palette - Morphe
- Am I late reviewing this palette? Sure am! But a bitch is broke and had to wait for Christmas. And you know what, it was worth the wait! This is my first brush (pun incredibly intended) with both Morphe and with Jeffree Star’s eye shadow palettes and ya’ll it’s just so beautiful. I’m no professional beauty blogger but I can tell you the colors were super pigmented and I feel pretty wearing them so I call that a win.
